Terms

Terms of Service

Last updated October 7, 2026

These are the terms for runlight.sh and the Runlight software. They are short because runlight.sh is the website of an open source project, and there is nothing to sign up for.

1. The software

Runlight (the @runlight/sdk package on npm and the code on GitHub) is released under the MIT License. That license alone governs how you use, copy, change, and share the code.

2. Your installation, your data

Runlight is a library that runs inside your own application and stores what it counts in your own database. You decide where it runs, which sites it counts, what it keeps, and who can see the dashboard. You are responsible for that setup, for the data in your database, for keeping your dashboard token and any mail service keys safe, and for any services (email providers, link shorteners you import from, and so on) you connect it to, under their own terms.

3. Your visitors

When you add Runlight to a site, you are the one counting its visitors. Runlight is built to keep nothing that identifies a person, but whether your use of it meets the laws that apply to you, and what you tell your visitors, is up to you. Keep personal details such as email addresses out of the event properties you send.

4. No warranty

The software is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. Numbers are counted as carefully as the code allows, but they can differ from other tools and can be affected by bots, blockers, misconfiguration, or outages. Do not rely on them as the only record of anything that matters, such as billing.

5. This website

runlight.sh hosts the landing page and the documentation. It has no accounts, and it neither holds your data nor counts your visitors. You may read and quote it, and you may link to it. Please do not try to break it or overload it, and do not use the contact form to send spam.

6. Liability

As far as the law allows, the maintainer is not liable for any loss or damage that comes from using the software or this website, including lost or wrong data and downtime. The MIT License says the same.

7. Changes

These terms may change as the project does. The date at the top says when they last did.

8. Questions

Send questions through the contact page. runlight.sh and Runlight are maintained by Jon C. Phillips.
